YouTube is a free video sharing website that makes it easy to watch online videos, and users can create and upload their own videos to share with others. This tool is not licensed or supported by the Alamo Colleges District, but it is free and available to the public and it requires a personal Google account to join.

Best uses for YouTube include:

• Solo projects such as speeches, presentations, demonstrations, or performances
• Videos that the user would want to share in more than one class and would not mind students viewing after the course has concluded
• Content that can be included as part of a portfolio or used beyond the Alamo Colleges

Microsoft Stream (part of the Office 365 suite of apps) is a video service where users in our organization can upload, view, organize, and share videos securely. There are separate video streaming platforms for employees and students, and anyone with access to their respective system can search for and share videos with users within the same Microsoft tenant.

Best uses for Microsoft Stream include:

• Employee trainings (including student workers) or internal communication
• Archive older recordings or presentations

Zoom is a web-conferencing tool that allows users to meet synchronously with their colleagues, instructors, or classmates. This tool allows users to record videos and screencasts to the Zoom Cloud that can be streamed for 150 days. Audio and video recording files can be downloaded and saved for archiving and sharing on other streaming platforms.

Best uses for Zoom include:

• Individual or group presentations, class/group discussions, and review/tutoring sessions
• Create content with no plans to reuse beyond the current term
• Record videos/screen casts to manually download/upload to another streaming service

Mediasite is an audio/video streaming platform that enables users to record or upload audio and video files, edit them, and manage their viewing permissions for sharing. It is only available to employees through an Alamo Colleges network login.

Best uses for Mediasite include:

• Create a series of instructor-lead lectures, tutorials, or demonstrations
• Employee trainings

The Canvas LMS used by the Alamo Colleges District allows users to upload files to their Canvas profile, course, or course groups. Course file folders and individual media files can be locked so they can only be viewed by other users with a direct link, or they can be set to unlock on a specific date.

Best uses for Canvas files include:

• House a small series of short lectures or tutorials
• Record brief announcements, comments, or feedback for students
• Students can record/upload audio or videos that can only be visible to you (online assignment submission) or the whole class (discussions, pages)

Canvas Studio is a media tool that allows users to upload, create, edit, manage, share, and discuss audio and video files directly within Canvas without taking up storage space in their personal files or course files. Existing files can be used, or new ones can be created with Studio's capture and editing tools.

Best uses for Canvas Studio include:

• House series of longer lectures/tutorials without taking up valuable course or user storage space
• Use in-video quizzing to test students' comprehension of the materials, and automatically pass their scores back to the Canvas gradebook

My Media (a.k.a. "New Mediasite") is an audio/video streaming platform that enables users to record or upload audio and video files, edit them, and manage their viewing permissions for sharing. This platform also allows users to create channels (or playlists) to organize their media files by class, topic, or activity and embed it directly within the Canvas course navigation menu. It is available to both employees and students through ACES login.

Best uses for My Media include:

• Instructor-led lectures, tutorials, or demonstrations
• Student presentations, reflections, creations, or collaborations
• Employee trainings

Panopto is a secure video streaming platform that allows users to record or upload audio and video files, edit them within the browser or desktop app, and manage their viewing permissions for sharing. This platform also allows users to record their screen and create playlists to organize their media into folders.

The Canvas integration lets instructors easily share video playlists within the Canvas course navigation menu as well as create video assignments for students to view/answer in-video questions or upload their own content for a grade.

Embedding videos directly into Canvas items via the Rich Content Editor makes it easy for users to securely stream content within the course.

Best uses for Panopto include:
